There are only few popular minivans on the market mainly because many families prefer crossovers thanks to the great interior space, fuel efficient engines and running costs that are on similar level like minivans but do offer far better looks. However, what happens when you just need a vehicle that can go almost anywhere? Well, the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse might be the answer for that because it is one of the few mid-size crossovers on the market which offers the same level of versatility as a full size crossover, but in most cases at a much lower cost.
The original model has been released back in 2008 and since then it received a couple of updates but the actual car remained unchanged. Because of this, it started to lose market against some of its competitors so GM had to do something about it. When we take a look at the current market we can easily notice that this model needs refreshment so it would stay competitive.
2016 Chevrolet Traverse Release Date
Well, the end result is the new Traverse which is scheduled to be released sometime at the end of the year. It seems that it will still use a very similar platform like the older generation but it should lose quite a bit of weight thanks to new materials and a clever design. On top of that, the engine is likely to get an update both in terms of performance and also fuel consumption. The base price is also very likely to be adjusted, so we do expect it to go slightly higher but if Chevy wants to stay competitive it really needs to be careful with this. We expect to see it priced at about $31,000 or few hundreds more.
2016 Chevrolet Traverse
The most changes on the new 2016 Chevrolet Traverse are likely to be on its interior which is going to get updates with new materials as well as new equipment. In the base form the car is most likely going to offer all the things needed for a small family and their friends, such as dual zone automatic climate control, a new infotainment system which should also feature Chevrolet’s new MyLink feature as well as a standard LTE and Wi-Fi hotspot feature.
Chevrolet Traverse Side
Optional features are going to include leather upholstery, satellite navigation, an even better climate control system as well as a bigger screen for the satellite navigation. The best part about the Traverse though is going to be its standard 8 seats which make it a bit better than most of its competitors.
Redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Traverse
There are also going to be quite a few changes outside the car which even though it will retain the same basic platform, it is going to be a bit longer. This is going to improve room inside the cabin as well as it will give it slightly more luggage space. The front fascia brings changes with a redesigned grille, a new pair of headlights with included daylight running lights even in the base form as well as a new front bumper for 2016 Chevrolet Traverse which is actually going to be a bit further of the ground without spoiling the aerodynamic coefficient of the car.
2016 Chevrolet Traverse Back
Engine wise, the 2016 Chevrolet Traverse is going to feature carried over naturally aspirated V6 as before but this time it will get a few improvements which are meant to make it a bit more suitable for such a large car. It will provide around 305 horsepower and a bit more than 280 lb-ft of torque which should make it feel a bit livelier. On top of that, this new model might be the first in the Chevrolet range to receive the all-new 9 speed automatic transmission developed specifically for front wheel drive cars. This new transmission would make it feel smoother as well as easier to drive because it would be able to maintain the maximum torque for longer. A turbocharged version of the Traverse might also see a reveal sometime next year with a slightly lower amount of power to the current V6 but with impressive torque curve that should allow it to be quite good on performances and fuel economy.
