The baby crossover from Acura, the RDX, is their best-selling model on the US market because it offers great comfort, good performance and a very conservative look which does please a lot of people. With introduction of the 2016 Acura RDX we are getting few nice changes that will allow this model to remain one of the best options in segment.
While the model isn’t exactly that old being released few years ago, in 2013, Acura already decided to give it a mid-life update which doesn’t include many changes which is okay, because it isn’t all that necessary. They worked on the exterior of the car, gave it quite a bit more equipment as well as made if faster thanks to an improved engine. Since it already was quite good we are sure that these improvements will attract more buyers.
Price Of 2016 Acura RDX
However, this is not everything new on the 2016 Acura RDX. In fact, Acura finally decided to discontinue the SH-AWD system because it was just too heavy for such a compact crossover and it didn’t make much sense on it. It was replaced with a standard AWD system which is said to send more power to the rear wheels when needed, meaning it should behave better in tight corners. On top of that, thanks to the lighter package, the car is now more fuel efficient as well as it is able to get faster to 60 MPH. The base price is one of the things which remained the same with the RDX coming on the market for around $35,270, a good price for the things you get with the car. However, take into account that even though it has been officially released at the Chicago Auto Show, the car won’t be available for sale for at least a couple more months.
2016 Acura RDX Interior
Just as we previously said, the engine in the 2016 Acura RDX is the same powerful 3.5 liter naturally aspirated V6 as in the previous generation. However, they tweaked it even more so the car is now able to provide as much as 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque which should be more than enough for now. The only drawback we see here is that it still gets the old 6 speed automatic gearbox which is fine but it isn’t nearly as good as the brand new 9 speed unit which has just been released on the MDX. There are rumors that this is going to be available on the RDX starting with 2017.
Acura RDX Side
As far as performance is concerned, the 2016 Acura RDX is able to accelerate to 60 MPH in just 6.2 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of 136 MPH, all while providing more than 23 MPG on average which for a car this size that can go on pretty much any type of surface is quite good. This is result for the front-wheel drive version while the all-wheel drive equipped model will reduce this number for single point.
2016 Acura RDX Review
Inside the cabin Acura worked mostly on the quality of the materials rather than the layout of the controls which was quite good on the previous generation. It now comes as standard with soft touch materials on the dashboard which feels just like a sponge, making it just as good as the best in its class. On top of that, the leather provided for the upholstery in 2016 Acura RDX is of a much better quality, being not only softer but also more durable. As standard it will come with satellite navigation, climate control and even a premium audio system with 10 speakers. Options are going to include an adaptive cruise control system and lane departure warning system, a better audio system with satellite radio as well as better seats for the front passengers.
2016 Acura RDX
The exterior of the 2016 Acura RDX has only been updated visually, so the car feels more like a facelift rather than a new car which is fine considering there was nothing really wrong with it. There are the new Jewel-eye LED headlights, new front and rear bumpers as well as a hidden exhaust, all of which make the car more subtle as well as better looking. Between headlights we have smaller grille that offers large badge while the lower part of the bumper brings large air intakes making it more aggressive and sportier. We are sure that this car will look even better when we get one for test and this is expected to happen during the next few months as soon it comes tot he market.
