The Trans Am has been the original Mustang competitor and since its introduction it has made millions of fans all over the World. The last real model of this vehicle has been built in the early 2000, so it has been missing from the market for over 10 years now. The new 2015 Pontiac Trans Am promises to be what the car’s industry has been missing.
Reports suggest that we could be getting a real flamboyant muscle car that will make other European cars seem silly. This is going to be based on a Camaro chassis, so expect it to handle brilliantly and thanks to the engines that it will boast, expect it to be the Mustang killer or at least worthy competitor.
2015 Pontiac Trans Am Specs
Let’s start with what type of engines you will be able to get. Firstly, there will be the 3.6 liter V6 that is also found on the Camaro. This will provide around 300 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque, being a good compromise between power and fuel consumption. There will also be a 6.2 liter V8 that will be good for around 450 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. The latter will be able to get the 2015 Pontiac Trans Am from 0 to 60 MPH in less than 5 seconds to a maximum top speed of around 190 miles per hour making it one of the fastest Pontiacs ever.
2015 Pontiac Trans Am Engine
GM said that there is a small chance the car will get a turbocharged powertrain that will feature the 3.6 liter twin turbo engine that is good for no less than 400 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. It would be great to see this turbocharged unit delivered to the 2015 Pontiac Trans Am but also a smaller turbocharged engine that would compete with 2.7 liter V6 from Ford Mustang would again improve fuel economy and certainly would not lack of power.
Pontiac Trans Am Logo
Transmission wise, you will get the 6 speed automatic coupled to the rear wheels as standard. This transmission is quite good and you will be getting fast gear shifts when you need it and quite smooth and refined ride when you are not on the track. Reports suggest that the manual version might be offered at a later date and that would certainly be appreciated by many car enthusiasts.
Pontiac Trans Am Interior
The interior of the 2015 Pontiac Trans Am is unfortunately very similar to that of the Camaro. The car gets all the usual gimmicks like climate control, satellite navigation and cloth upholstery as standard while a surround sound system and a fully leather interior are optional extras. The only different items from the Camaro are the steering wheel which is of a slightly different shape and the dials in the dashboard which have the Pontiac logo and a different color.
2015 Pontiac Trans Am Back Side
On the exterior on the other hand, the 2015 Pontiac Trans Am looks quite good and even if it’s based on the Camaro it features quite a different styling that reminds people of the old Firebird. The lights are now integrated into the front bumper while the tail lights have been redesigned and are offered with LED technology in order to look like the original.
Price Of 2015 Pontiac Trans Am
It is expected to be released on the market at the end of this year at a base price of just over $28.000 making it a real competitor to all the other muscle cars on the market. For higher trim levels and more powerful engines be prepared to give more than $40,000 for 2015 Pontiac Trans Am but it is still in the range that is comparable with Mustang.
