Since 2015 Lexus GX 460 is a mid-size SUV based on a truck platform, it offers ride and handling that is in some situations more suitable for off-roading than a regular pavement. It will certainly offer great comfort on any road but it is also great for the off-road excursions when needed. This is rather strange for luxury vehicles in general, but Toyota’s luxury division had a vision and decided to stick with it.
The 4.6L V8 engine is the only available option under 2015 Lexus GX 460 hood and this strong powertrain makes impressive 301 hp and 329 lb-ft of torque which enables it to tow up to 6,500 pounds. Power is transferred through a 6-speed sequential-shift automatic transmission that is quick and smooth which make ride quite enjoyable from this standpoint. Full time all-wheel drive is mandatory here in all three models available, base, premium and luxury.
Lexus GX 460 Engine
Exterior styling is as usually appealing when Lexus is concerned. The 2015 Lexus GX 460 might not be the best-looking vehicle in the lineup thanks to its truck boxy end, but it isn’t ugly as well. Spindle grille with sharp angular headlights is responsible for that. Out back, Lexus’ mid-size crossover stands tall with vertically positioned tail-lights and unconventional side-opening hatch which makes plenty of problems if you want to load the trunk from the curb side as hinges are to its right.
2015 Lexus GX 460 Review
Don’t get us wrong all models are luxury vehicles, but the one with luxury name in its grade offers a little bit more. Space is abundant in first couple of rows, but the third row spells trouble. It is hardly accessible and old fashioned folding mechanism takes additional room. Materials however are of finest quality and cabin is comfortable and quiet. Seats are made of semi-aniline perforated leather, at least on luxury grade. Base model doesn’t fall in behind as well as it also gets high quality leather seats and plenty of metallic and wood accents. Heavy dash and instrument panel emphasize power and the fact that 2015 Lexus GX 460 is a truck-based SUV. All infotainment features are carried over with 8-inch touch screen. Mark Levinson premium surround sound system with 17 speakers is part of an optional package which costs $1,145. Safety features are solid, but there should have been more standard electronic active options, especially since rear visibility is a problem.
2015 Lexus GX 460
Because of its truck-based underpinnings, 2015 Lexus GX 460 is rated at 15 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway which are dismal ratings even for a speedy mid-size SUV. Prices start from $49,085 for a base model, while luxury grade costs at least $60,715. These figures are comparable with other models in this segment and without a doubt it can be compared to other models.
Lexus GX 460 Side
The 2015 Lexus GX 460 still looks good, but not that good. It offers a big powertrain, but utterly fuel inefficient. Interior room is plenty, but it can be utilized in better way. The point is that GX 460 is slowly showing its age and this is unacceptable in luxury car segment. Toyota will have to do something about it and soon.
